Quiet Waters Montessori Academy has chosen to opt out of the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care agreement. Here is what that means and why.
Why we opted out
Quiet Waters Montessori Academy has made the considered decision to opt out of the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) agreement administered by the Ontario government.
The CWELCC programme offers fee subsidies to participating licensed child care centres in exchange for adherence to a government-mandated fee structure and operational requirements. While we fully support making quality early childhood education more accessible to families, participation in CWELCC would require us to make significant changes to our fee model and programming that we believe would compromise the quality and integrity of our authentic Montessori programme.
As an independent Montessori school, we are committed to:
- Maintaining low child-to-educator ratios that exceed regulated minimums
- Investing in high-quality, authentic Montessori materials and environments
- Employing trained Montessori educators and supporting their ongoing professional development
- Preserving the flexibility to make programme decisions based on the needs of our children and community
We recognise that opting out means our families do not receive CWELCC subsidies directly through our school. We encourage families who have questions about alternative child care funding options — such as the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) subsidies administered by the County of Simcoe — to contact us or reach out to their local municipality.
